Entering the Chutney Soca Monarch for the first time in 2010, KI placed 4th with the successful hit “Catch Meh Lovah (Sunita& Nadia)”. His scintillating performance at the 2011 Chutney Soca Monarch Competition saw him place 3rd with his song “No More Rum Again” with over 10,000 votes. He has since then became the most requested Crossover Artist at Major festivals/carnivals worldwide.
2011 was proven to be a record breaking year for KI, as he was asked to be the opening act for Machel Montano’s Return Concert in Manhattan, New York. He thus became the first ever Crossover Artist out of Trinidad & Tobago to perform at the world renowned Madison Square Garden alongside his band 3veni.
In 2012, KI went on to win the competition, becoming the youngest ever Chutney Soca Monarch, with his massive hit single “Single Forever.” He was crowned as he earned over 36,000 votes in a text to win system. In this same year, he was awarded Chutney Soca Artist of the year (IRAWMA,) Song of the Year& Entertainer of the Year at the Chutney Soca Awards, & a national award for Chutney Soca presented by Njac endorsed by the then President George Maxwell Richards to name a few. Upon concluding a successful carnival season, he has been touring the world with his band, once again performing in the major Carnivals around the world.
In 2013, KI took his music to a new height by hosting his own concert, dubbed “I AM KI,” which featured Machel Montano, Drupatee and Neval Chatelal among others. Earlier that year, he also had the honour of performing for the President of the People’s Republic of China during his state visit. In addition to this, KI and Neval Chatelal were integral parts of our country’s cultural mission that toured the People’s Republic of China for their 9th International Folk Art Festival this September. Nearing the end of 2013, KI had been awardedInternational Chutney Soca Artist of the Year at the Toronto Caribbean Awards. He was also endorsed by Trinidad & Tobago’s mobile network BMobile.
In 2014, KI reclaimed his title as Chutney Soca Monarch with his hit song “Runaway.” He then claimed 103FM’s Chutney Soca Road March by popular vote. In June of 2014, KI also became the first Chutney-Soca artist to perform in Hollywood Carnival along with Machel Montano. KI now continues to tour throughout the Caribbean, North & South America, and Europe, promoting the fantastic music and culture of Trinidad & Tobago.
2015 was another great year for KI, as he was awarded both “Most Outstanding Male Performer” and“Song of the Year” by the Chutney Soca Monarch awards ceremony. He continued to hold the title of “103 Radio Road March” winner with his 2015 single, No Gyal Again. This year also marked his first entry into the International (Power) Soca Monarch competition. Not willing to waste the opportunity, KI hired a team of experienced effect specialists with hollywood blockbusters under their belt, to fly him above the crowds of both Chutney Soca and International Soca Monarch. Thus far in the year he has already toured to North and South America, and will be heading to Europe this summer. In 2015, he and his team moved forward with a name change after 38 years, becoming “KI and the Band” capitalizing on the brand, “KI.”
In 2016 KI went on to win the Chutney Soca Monarch for a 3rd time with his massive hit Same Gyal Twice, having all walks of life doing the KI Dance Internationally. It boasts almost 1,000,000 views on YouTubein 5 months.
