Darryl “D-Life” Payne, is one of the few deejays on the cusp of this movement. Trinidadian-born and Brooklyn-raised, D-Life has “soca in his blood.” Not limited to soca however, he has been put to the test with the best reggae and hip-hop sound systems in New York City. He played for years alongside Massive B on Hot 97. More recently, he has been mixing for the legendary Doug E. Fresh on 107.5 WBLS.
D-LIFE is not only on the cutting edge of the soca fusion sound, he also helped create it. While on Hot 97, he helped break songs by soca ambassadors Alison Hinds, Kevin Little, Rupee, Collie Buddz and Bunji Garlin. In 2007, he became the first soca deejay to release an album on a major US label, dropping Extreme Soca v.1, on Penalty/EMI. DLIFE has also shown his talents on the creative side working with Kanye West and Estelle when he co-produced Soca remix to their smash hit American Boy for Atlantic Records.
DLIFE skills now venture beyond playing the music, apart from being Alison Hinds official Dj he’s also part of her management and he’s also Director of Artiste Development and Caribbean Affairs at FRP/Frptv network and WorldCast Live which are media base tech companies which allows him ( DLIFE) to shows the cooperate world he’s more than a Dj.
