DANE GULSTON

Panist

Born in Port-of- Spain, Trinidad – Dane began his musical career at the age of 7 at his grandmother’s home. Dane practiced on the steel pan with his uncle every evening after school, and in 1982 earned his place in the Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra. Dane has partnered with young, premier artists in Trinidad and Tobago like Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin and his Assylum band, and Sherwayne Winchester. Dane’s collaboration with soca prodigy Machel Montano has taken him to the world-renowned Madison Square Garden stage where he performed alongside Montano in an historic concert that showcased the music and culture of Trinidad and Tobago. His partnership with the effervescent Bunji Garlin and the Assylum band came at a time when the band was in the throes of incredible success with its front woman, Fay Ann Lyons, who created history in the 2009 carnival season, by walking away with three major competitive titles. In similar fashion, Dane performed with Sherwayne Winchester during the height of his career when Winchester snatched up three coveted titles in one year, making him one of soca music’s most decorated artists. A long time pannist with the celebrated Trinidad and Tobago All Stars Steel Orchestra, Dane performed as a front man with the band the year when they became the first pan orchestra to walk away with the one million dollar first prize. Dane formed part of a contingent of performers proudly representing Trinidad and Tobago making their debut at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He has performed with artists such as George Benson, Nestor Torres, Auturo Tappan, Maxi Priest and Roberta Flack, thrilling audiences throughout the world. He is regarded as one of the most skillful, entertaining and sought-after pan men of the 21st century.
