Dexter John Stewart, better known in the Soca Fraternity as “BLAXX” was born on December 21st, 1962 in Trinidad & Tobago. Dexter expressed interest in music at a very early stage in his life, and started his musical journey at the tender age of thirteen. His father, Jerry Stewart was the lead singer of his own band called “Jerry and New School”. Many, including Blaxx, have credited this paternal relationship in helping to mold the younger Stewart into the prolific entertainer and performer that we see today. Since then, Dexter has been a member of a few bands – including “Fucceccion”, “Atlantic”, “Byron Lee and the Dragonares” and ”Blue Ventures”. He transitioned into his stage name, “Blaxx”, after a decade with his first band – a moniker that was born from his dark brown skin tone that had often been a source of contention for his progress and success in the the industry. It was the year 1999 when world renowned saxophonist, the legendary Dr. Roy Cape, approached Blaxx and asked him to join his family of musicians, popularly known as Roy Cape and the Kaiso All Stars. Blaxx graciously accepted the offer, and has since made his mark as a prolific performer on the frontline for this legendary band, which has now transitioned to Roy Cape All Stars. To date, he has lent a helping hand in guiding several Soca Artistes to their respective successes, including Ricardo Drue, Destra Garcia, Olatunji Yearwood, Asten Isaac and Aaron “Voice” St. Louis, among scores of other performers. Blaxx has become well-known and –loved for his versatile nature in singing; bridging the cultural eras of kaiso, calypso and soca effortlessly with a distinctive voice both in studio and on stage. He connects with fans and global audience with his foray into other genres of music – such as reggae, r&b and jazz – and this veteran’s easygoing nature has grown to become one of the most loved and respected individuals in the local, regional and international music fraternity. Out of the spotlight, Blaxx is a loving, caring family man. With his wife, he is a father to 5 beautiful children, dedicated son, supportive sibling, a beloved member of his communities in both North and South Trinidad, and a cherished son and brother of Trinbagonian soil.
